“Jeffery eschewed a multi-year offer with the Bears last spring and signed a one-year pact worth up to $9.5 million in Philadelphia. It’s proven to be a wise decision. He’s become a key offensive weapon on the NFL’s top-scoring attack, albeit one with plenty of firepower and a dynamic rushing attack that allows Jeffery to thrive without being the sole playmaker he struggled to be in his final two seasons in Chicago following the release of Brandon Marshall. Meantime, Chicago has struggled mightily to replace not only Jeffery but Kevin White and Cameron Meredith, both of whom were lost early to season-ending injuries. Top pick Mitch Trubisky has completed more combined passes to his running backs and tight ends than a wideout corps whose top receiver, Kendall Wright, has just 345 yards, including only 109 since Week 7. Both Eagles GM Howie Roseman and Bears GM Ryan Pace took a volume approach to rebuilding their receiving units this offseason. But MVP frontrunner Carson Wentz, who welcomed Torrey Smith and rookie Mack Hollins in addition to Jeffery, has coaxed meaningful contributions from everyone. Trubisky hasn’t had enough in Wright, Markus Wheaton and others in the absence of Meredith and White.”
